Just got it on Sunday as it's getting colder and colder. Even the utilities is included in the rent, we still don't operate the heater the whole night. Hazardous Crash

A wrong truck which drove on the right side of the lane (a front part of the truck)
A pitiful bus was crashed although it was on the right lane (a front part of the bus)
This accident happened along National Road No 6 on 13th May 2010 at Kampong Dey, Kampong Thom (or Siem Reap - I am not sure about which province this place belong to). Unknown people said at least 8 people, who were drivers and sat next to the drivers, died and many people suffered serious injury. When I took this photo, I thought the bus was not wrong and I supposed the truck driver (another counter party) must fall a sleep and crashed the bus as it was a night time.

So even we drive carefully, we still cannot assure of safety. Yet, please drive carefully as one proverb says "Prevention is better than Cure".

Bulky, Risky Transportation

Let's end the old year 2009. Let's open the new year 2010 with new amazing building in the world. I hope everyone knows which building I want to mention. Imagine how can you capture the whole picture of this Burj Dubai? Wow, it is 160 floors with 828 meters height. It took more than 4 years to complete the construction. 21 September 2004 was the starting date of construction and 4 January 2009 was the official date to open. Well, I wish I could have a chance to visit this wonderful building once in my life time.

My first trip to Siem Reap for the year of 2009 with my colleagues was on 03 January 2009 which we reached Siem Reap province at about 2 o’clock in the afternoon. First, we went directly to Menbora hotel where I stayed with Ms. Liny who is my co-worker. Then we visited Angkor National Museum till 5.30 pm and further to our main-visit event, The Legend of Angkor Wat which started till 31 January 2009. It is such a great and meaningful performance that I have ever watched and performed by beautiful Apsara and Cambodian famous actors with English language. Once I saw the show, I felt I was in Angkor Wat era. No word to describe this wonderful performance, so you should see it by yourself. Well, the ticket is expensive - USD 15 for the last row of the seat and first row costs USD 80 for Cambodians. However, I got the free five-VIP tickets from my colleagues to sit in the front row. Oop, the show lasted for one hour (from 8.00 pm - 9.00 pm). I recommend you to be hurry to see this performance before it’s over.

In the morning, we experienced new game namely Paintball Game, shooting at Phyamat Entertainment Center where we shot each other and got hurt. Hey, this is a game not real so it’s the fade shooting. Hard to tell how hurt it is when you are shot but I want to emphasize that you are not die in this game, just getting hurt.

I am so joyful in this trip. Well, I will have next trip soon.

Do you know this place?

Recently, I have a small trip with my colleagues to one of ecotourism site located near Kirirom report (mountain) where is on the half way from Phnom Penh to Sihanok Vill (Kampong Som). Even it was a short journey, I were so tired since I had to walk almost ½ hour from car parking place to the waterfall. However, it was not a waste to spend my energy. I could see attracting high waterfall and what was the most interesting activity was that my feet were massaged by small fished in shallow water. Oh, this reminds me how my exhausted feeling release now. Well, it is a long text already, I think, so let’s see some photos.

Adventurous Trip

It seems to me that I have much stuff to post this month. Again, I had a wonderful trip to a new place but to me it’s a first adventurous trip. The event took place on May 10, 2008 when my colleagues and I went to a place located approximately 5 km far from Yeay Mao (along National Road 4) or Kirirom resort. Passing Yeay Mao, on the right hand side you can see the band indicated a natural water fall called Thmor Roung but you need to drive another 5 km to reach a real water fall resort. At first, I was confused when I heard this name. I just imaged that it was a kind of cave. To my surprise, it’s a wide water fall and not so many people have known about this resort yet so the nature has kept its beauty and freshness. Anyway, even I tell you more than this, you still do not believe me 100%, so let’s me show you some photos.

Why I said it’s an adventurous trip? Because all the people in the car had never come to this place and we just asked a resident living around there. That is why our car was accidentally stuck in the mud. Luckily we could reach our destination. P.S: The road is really good but it’d better if you drive a pickup vehicle.

Cambodia Signs Multi-Donor Agreement for $11 Million Grants to Support National Bird Flu Plan

PHNOM PENH, May 8 — The Royal Government of Cambodia signed the agreement with a group of donors Thursday for three grants totaling $11 million, which will go to help Cambodia strengthen its response to any outbreak of the avian and human influenza in the future. Out of the $11 million total, $6 million is provided by the International Development Association (IDA), the part of the World Bank that helps the world’s poorest countries through grants and interest-free loans.

The Government of Japan contributed $3 million from its Policy and Human Resources Development (PHRD) Fund, while the Avian and Human Influenza (AHI) Facility, a grant-making mechanism supported by the European Commission and eight other donors, contributed $2 million. Both the PHRD Fund and the AHI Facility are administered by the World Bank. The project consists of three components: (i) to strengthen animal health systems; (ii) to improve human health systems; and (iii) to strengthen the inter-ministerial cooperation for pandemic preparedness. It will be implemented by units within the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Health,
and the National Committee for Disaster Management.

The signing ceremony was presided over by H.E. Ouk Rabun, the Acting Minister of Economy and Finance.
World Bank Country Director for Cambodia, Ian Porter, Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy,
Kenchi Kobayashi, and Daniel Costa Llobet, First Secretary of the European Commission Delegation to Cambodia also attended the ceremony.

Welcome back after Khmer New Year. Three days of the 2008 Khmer New Year passed with a lot of memories with my family. Every year we never miss to go to pagoda especially on the first or second day of Khmer New Year’s day as we are Buddhist. I can remember when I was young there were varieties of popular games to play particularly within pagoda’s space. Those include CHOR CHHOUNG, TEANH PRORT, BOAS ANGKONH, and so forth. However, these games are becoming less attractive for some Cambodians. But it does not mean that the games die. Come to the last day of Khmer New Year, people always go to pagoda to wash the Buddhist statue as Cambodians call this activity as SRONG PRAS. It made me recall the last year that my family always did this but we didn’t go to pagoda te. Instead we bath our grandparents as we believe that our grandpa and grandma are the gods in our house. Unluckily, we missed to do it this year as we were all busy and my aunt’s family was on holiday. This is just a brief activity for Khmer culture during Khmer New Year.

Fail to translate Valentine's Day

Recent years Valentine’s Day has become the hottest and joyous occasion in Cambodia. News agents like TVs, radios and newspapers pay much attention on the effects of this influential foreign culture. I read one article on The Cambodia Daily newspaper on 15 Friday 2008, volume 38 Issue 97, and I was so surprised to realize that some young people between the ages of 14 and 28 misunderstand this occasion as a time when sex is needed to prove one’s love. Consequently, some strategies are implemented by teachers such as preparing exam on that day to make students concentrate on their study and TVs also broadcast the clear meaning of this Day.

Moreover, the price of rose increased from KHR 1,000 to KHR 3,000 or even KHR 4,000 on this holiday. According to The Cambodia Daily page 20, Ms Srey Roth, a florist, sold 10,000 of flowers on that day. And I saw many sellers did this business in Phnom Penh on that day. So can you imagine how many roses were bought on this new custom day???

This rat year is strange than other year. Do you know why? Hehe, I couldn’t go to my hometown on Chinese New Year (CNY). I remember that every year, when the CNY came, I were always in Kampong Thom province with my warm family and we really had great time of reunion. Poor me!!! I couldn’t meet my family and helped them cleaned the house to welcome CNY and in order to wash away bad luck. Fortunately, I still get red pockets from my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and my sister since they sent them to me. Frankly speaking, I can’t speak Chinese at all but I celebrate it due to my grandparents are Chinese, hence I have a little Chinese blood. So don't ask me about Chinese...

Trip to Kampong Som

Here comes my trip to Kampong Som Town on 5th January 2008 with NBC’s colleagues. This was the first trip for me as I have been working for NBC since May 2007 and the first trip in year 2008. There were 12 people on this short trip, 5 of them are ladies including me. Hehehe... It’s really enjoyable. We reached the Jasmine Hotel at around 12:30 P.M and then we further our trip to two islands, Russie and Takeav Island. It’s almost 1 hour from O’ Chhue Teal beach to Russie Island. Oop, it cost KHR 140,000 (equal to USD 35) to travel by boat from the above beach to Russie Island. However, it’s a good idea if you take a boat from Ream beach to Russie Island because it is less far and cheaper than departure from O’ Chhue Teal beach. This is just a suggestion for you. Hey, Russie Island is so beautiful and peaceful. You can find restaurants, accommodations, toilets, and other basic needs, which on land provides especially fresh air.

Well, we returned to O’ Chhue Teal beach at 5:00 in the evening after a short visit to Ta Keav Island. Another interesting activity that was adventurous for me and other four friends was sitting on Banana boat causing one of my friends lost his glasses in the sea. At night time we sat along O’ Chhue Teal beach to have dinner and play games. On the second day, we went to Sokha beach to take cute photos and had lunch at O’ Treas beach where I swam for almost 3 hours. It was a time to go back home after we took a rest 30 minutes after a meal.

Humm, I wish I could have such a wonderful time again even it’s somehow tired.

SEVEN DONT'S AFTER A MEAL

 Do not smoke after a meal! Experiments from experts prove that smoking a cigarette after a meal is comparable to smoking TEN cigarettes (Chances of Cancer are higher).

 Do not eat fruits immediately after meals. It will bloat your stomach. Therefore have your fruits one or two hours before or after your meal.

 Do not drink tea after a meal as tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the protein content in the food we consume to be hardened; making it difficult to digest.

 Do not loosen your belt after eating. Loosening the belt after a meal can cause intestinal problems.

 Do not bathe after eating. Bathing will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs and body thereby causing the amount of blood around the stomach to decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.

 Do not walk after a meal even though you have heard people say that after a meal, walking a hundred steps will make you live till 99. Walking immediately after a meal will make it difficult for the digestive system to absorb the nutrition from the food we eat. Wait at least an hour after your meal and then walk if you want to.

 Do not sleep immediately. The intake of food will not be able to digest properly thereby leading to gastro-intestinal problems.

Hey, I do believe these suggestions and hope you all take these points into consideration so as to take care of your health which is vital.

My workplace prepared a party on this New Year Eve to strengthen our friendship. We really enjoyed the event since our boss and colleagues could eat, chat, toast and wish each other. All participants danced and drank beer and soft drink. Oh, we also did a lucky draw for exchanging the present. For me, I got lamp and stone cute pig as the exchange of my golden-color mattress. The below photo is the gift that I got from the party.

After the party, at the last minute of 2007, I sat on the boat, called Partoon, on Mekong River with my colleagues to welcome year 2008. We counted down together and saw the firework that Cambodian government shot to greet New Year 2008. This is the first time that I went home late as I reached home at 12.30 am and frankly speaking I were drunk a little bit since I drank cocktail. It seemed not strange for many men but this is not a usual case in Cambodia that women drank. However, I just wanted to try and got experience.

I wish to have a party even better than this year for the following year. Anyway, how about you? Did you join any activities on this New Year 2008???

Water Festival and Wedding Season

Do you know what is happening during Novemebr in Cambodia??? On thing is the Water Festival which is related to boat racing, and moon ceremony. The boat racing activities are held in the Capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. Not surprisingly, a crowded people are coming to this small city; the traffic is terrible at this time, isn't it??? However, it is a really interesting celebration in Cambodia every year.

Well, an other important event is the wedding Season. Last year, I didn't get any wedding invitations. Contrastingly, I've got nine wedding invitations for this November and December 2007. It's happy to join the wedding reception

Finish GEP course at ACE in Phnom Penh

On 25 October 2007, I attended another graduation ceremony at ACE (Australian Centre for Education) for my General English Programme. Thus, I got 6.5 overall band score for IELTS as I finished Level 12 there. It is a low band score, however, it's a high achievement for my term as I got a certificate with "Pass with Distinction" sign and all 4 macro skills are not below 6 band. My family likes to prepare a sample party at home. In fact, I am quite happy to join all the occasions because it is the only chance that we can meet each other and have a noise of laughs. The best time to reunion is Khmer New Year since everyone has holiday from works and schools. However, we also meet when Phum Ben, Chinese New Year, and Universal New Year come. Ooop, we are Kampong Thom residents, so it is absolutely sure that we see each other there not in Phnom Penh. This year we also had opportunity to be together when my little nephew celebrated his birthday on 15th July 2007. It was such an enjoyable time to eat since my mum and my aunts prepare delicious food for us.

Since I moved to Phnom Penh I never involved in taking care of flowers because I don't have much time and no soil to plant. But now I try to buy small tree and put them in my bedroom.
